Health sector to get 2.5 per cent of GDP in next Plan

The Planning Commission says, the health sector will get a larger share of 2.5 per cent of GDP instead of 1.8 per cent, in the next Plan period.

Planning Commission member Syeda Hamid said this while addressing an international Vaccination Symposium at Surajkund near New Delhi on Thursday.

She said this will be a very big jump and will help strengthening National Immunization Programme and other health services in the country.

She said that year-by-year achievement has to be recorded to get maximum benefits and the Commission will insist that what is spent has to be commensurate with the results. For outreach programme, Syeda Hamid suggested interaction of local police, Anganwadi workers, religious heads of different sects and others have to help mobilize people to accept health facilities.
