Health Ministry reviews preparedness on Zika virus

Health Ministry today reviewed the preparedness on Zika virus disease at a high level meeting in New Delhi. Chairing the meeting, Health Secretary B P Sharma said, in addition to the two diagnostic facilities at National Centre for Disease Control and National Institute of Virology Pune, ten new facilities will become operational by end of this month. He said, a 24X7 Control Room for providing information on Zika is now operational in the Ministry.<br/><br/>The numbers of the Control Room are 23061469 and 23063205. It said, the surveillance activities have been activated through the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme network. Rapid Response Teams have also been formed in the States and instructions and guidelines have been issued on the virus. Zika virus disease is an emerging viral disease transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. This is the same mosquito that is known to transmit infections like dengue and chikungunya.
