The Union Health Ministry is introducing Rubella vaccine as Measles-Rubella vaccine in its Universal Immunization Programme. The vaccine will be administered to children up to the age group of nine months to 15 years under Measles – Rubella Campaign in a phased manner.<br/><br/>The campaign aims at rapidly building up immunity for both measles and rubella. It also provides another opportunity for children left out of routine immunization. According to the Ministry, the campaign starting in 1st quarter of this year targets about 41 crore children.<br/><br/>The campaign will be phased across the country over a period of two to three years. AIR correspondent reports that in September, 2013 India along with other countries resolved to eliminate measles and congenital rubella syndrome by 2020.<br/><br/>
