Health Minister stresses on sustained political commitment to fight against HIV-AIDS

Health Minister J P Nadda has stressed on sustained political commitment and coordination to fight against HIV-AIDS.<br/><br/>Addressing a conference on ending AIDS epidemic by 2030 in New Delhi today, Mr Nadda said, Governments in India and Africa must make it easy for communities to access the benefits of new scientific research in health.<br/><br/>He said, India and Africa's quest to end poverty is closely tied to the ability to end ill health and economic growth not possible without a healthy society.<br/><br/>He said, India is committed to ensure that Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights, TRIPS flexibilities will be fully harnessed to provide sustained access to life saving drugs.<br/><br/>Mr Nadda said, Government is committed to learn and share with Africa on health issues, creation of new frameworks and means of implementation.<br/><br/>He said, India has learnt from Africa's early experience in responding to AIDS in increasing awareness and providing services.<br/><br/>The Minister said, he is optimistic that the goals of AIDS- free nations will be achieved in years and not decades.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta discussed ways of ensure access to lifesaving medicine to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030.<br/><br/>Deputy Chairperson of African Union Commission Erastus Mwencha, senior Cabinet Ministers of Uganda, Malawi, Rwanda and Togo also addressed the conference.<br/>
