Health helpline for Assam ‘Sarathi 104’

The Assam Chief Minister Mr.Tarun Gogoi today dedicated a health information helpline service to be known as the ‘Sarathi 104’ to the people of the State. Assam becomes the second State in the country after Andhra Pradesh to have launched this service. Speaking on the occasion , the Chief Minister Mr. Gogoi said this service would provide timely medical advice and suggestion to the people, especially in interior and far-flung areas of the State. He mentioned that the State Government has accorded top priorities to two key sectors – health and education. Gogoi said the Government would provide 25 lakh medicine-laced mosquito nets to people living in malaria-affected bordering areas. Dwelling at length on the salient features of Sarathi 104, the State Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma said the people would no longer have to wait in queues to seek a doctor’s help or advice, as all health-related information would be readily available round-the-clock just by making a call through mobile or landline phones. The health information helpline would not only provide counseling to callers for any health-related problems but also prescribed medicines through SMS, he added.
