In Nepal, the Heads of Mission of the European Union, Switzerland and Norway have welcomed the formation of the High Level Political Mechanism to deal with the key issues of peace process and its successful conclusion.<br/><br/>In a press statement, the EU members said that they believe the priorities of the High-Level Political Mechanism should be the sincere implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the completion of its key commitments, especially the drafting of a new constitution.<br/><br/>The statement said that after a year of slow progress in the implementation of the peace agreement, the European Ambassadors are encouraged by the renewed commitment to bring the peace process forward and reiterated their support to the process based on the needs identified by the parties.<br/><br/>The European envoys have also welcomed the start of the discharge of the disqualified combatants from the cantonments. They urged that the key issue of the future of verified former combatants be finalised as soon as possible and asked the political leaders to agree to the numbers and modalities so that the process can begin in the near future.<br/><br/>It may be recalled that the Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal recently outlined a 112-days time bound action plan to complete the integration and rehabilitation of nearly 19,000 verified Maoist combatants by April 30. They are now living in various UN supervised cantonments.
