In Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court today directed the state government to issue notification for local bodies’ elections by the 31st of this month. The Court ordered that the local bodies’ elections in Uttar Pradesh should be held on the basis of 2011 census.While passing the order after hearing petitions filed on the issue of local bodies’ elections, the High Court Bench comprising Justice Amitabh Lala and Justice V.K.Mathur asked the State government to complete the delimitations work of wards throughout the state by the end of this month on the basis of 2011 census data. The court observed that after 2011 census, the population in the state has increased therefore delimitations of wards are essential before elections.The term of several local bodies in Uttar Pradesh is being completed in November and for others, it will be completed in December.
