HC to pronounce orders on Yeddyurappa’s bail plea this noon

In Karnataka, the orders on the anticipatory bail plea of former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and his kin in the illegal mining case is listed in Karnataka High court to be taken up this afternoon. The order which was supposed to be pronounced yesterday was defered by the Judge and posted for today afternoon.

Besides Yeddyurappa, his sons B Y Raghavendra, MP and B Y Vijendra and son-in-law R N Sohan Kumar have also sought advance bail after a CBI court rejected their petitions on June 13. CBI is probing charges that Yeddyurappa’s sons bought denotified land in Bangalore for 20 lakh rupees and sold it to South West mining company for 20 crore rupees. It is also alleged that the Company paid kickback to Prerna trust run by Yeddyurappa’s sons in return for favours in the mining sector.

It is a crucial day for Yeddyurappa and his family members as they face possibilities of arrest in the illegal mining probe by CBI. Yeddyurappa who led BJP to power in Karnataka had to vacate his seat as Chief Minister after Lokayuktha report on illegal mining inducted him for alleged misuse of his official position for promoting commercial ventures of his sons. The report on illegal mining by the then Lokayuktha Justice Santosh Hegde had pegged the losses due to illegal mining at over 16,000 crores between 2006 and 2010. After the report was submitted to the Government, Yeddyurappa had resigned in July. Since then he and his family members are facing several cases of land denotification and illegal mining.
