HC seeks Tamil govt's reply on plea by Rajiv Gandhi killers

The Madras High Court has issued notice to the Tamil Nadu government to file its reply to a petition by one of the Rajiv Gandhi killers, Nalini, before 27th of this month, seeking her early release. In the petition, she has said she has been under prison for the past 25 years. She was not released early by the state government as the case was tried by the CBI.

However, she has said the state is yet to take a decision on her memorandum submitted two years back on her early release, and has averred that serving 20 years term is enough for release based on humanitarian grounds and good conduct as per a 1994 order passed by the state. Hearing the case, Justice Satyanarayanan directed the court registry to issue notice to the state and posted the case for further hearing on 27th.
