HC says there can't be blanket test for all disabled applying for govt jobs

The Delhi High Court has said that there can't be a blanket test for government jobs for all disabled applicants. The court termed it as impractical and observed that a "one size fit all" model may not be the most efficient.

A bench of justices S Ravindra Bhat and Deepa Sharma said yesterday that there are more than two crore Indians with disability of some type and every disability requires a specific aid since it imposes specific restrictions. The court observed that there were deficiencies in the Persons With Disabilities (PWD) Act.

The Act is regarding job reservation and 40 per cent criteria for being classified as a person with disability. High Court's observations came while dismissing an appeal filed by a civil service aspirant, suffering from severe depression with obsessive-compulsive disorder, seeking inclusion within PWD Act of persons with mental illness for job reservations.
