HC reserves order on UP CMO murder cases

The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court in Uttar Pradesh has reserved its order on a pending Public Interest Litigation, seeking a CBI probe into the murder of two Chief Medical Officers including Dr. Vinod Kumar Arya and Dr. BP Singh in the Capital. A Division Bench of the Court of Justices Pradeep Kant and Ritu Raj Awasthi has directed the police not to proceed further in both the cases. The court has also asked the lower court concerned not to proceed further on the chargesheets pending before it filed by the police. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the hearing on the PIL was taken up as per the earlier order of the court. The chargesheet, case diary along with entire records related to police probes in the murder of family welfare CMOs were produced in the court. Additional Advocate General also produced the order issued by the State Government in which further investigations of both the murder cases have been referred to the CBI. The Police have arrested three persons in connection with the murder of both the CMOs. In its chargesheet the police have claimed that the then Deputy CMO Dr. YK Sachan had hatched the conspiracy for murder of both the senior officers of health department. Dr. Sachan was found dead in Lucknow district jail under mysterious circumstances. Dr. Arya was shot dead in October last year while Dr. Singh was killed in Gomti Nagar area on April 2 this year. All major opposition political parties and family members of deceased doctors have been demanding CBI probe into the cases. Meanwhile, former CMO Dr A K Shukla has been denied bail in the National Rural Health Mission funds embezzlement case by a Lucknow local court.
