HC reserves order in anticipatory bail plea filed by Chidambaram in INX Media cases

<span style="color: #222222;">The Delhi High Court has reserved its order in the anticipatory bail plea filed by Congress leader and former Union minister P. Chidambaram in INX Media cases. The CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had today asserted before the High Court that custodial interrogation of Mr Chidambaram was required in corruption and money laundering cases relating to the INX Media scandal. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The High Court said the interim protection from arrest granted to Mr Chidambaram will continue till the decision is passed on his plea for anticipatory bail. Mr Chidambaram's role in the 3,500 crore rupees Aircel-Maxis deal and the INX Media case involving 305 crore rupees is being probed by investigating agencies. It was during his tenure as finance minister in the UPA-I government that clearances from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) were given to the two ventures.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In the INX Media case, the CBI had registered an FIR on May 15, 2017 alleging irregularities in the FIPB clearance granted to the media group for receiving overseas funds to the tune of 305 crore rupees. In the Aircel-Maxis case, the Patiala House Court, in January, had extended the interim protection from arrest granted to Mr Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram till February 1. </span><br />'' <br />
