The Allahabad High Court has issued notice to the state government on a petition challenging extension of tenure of State Lokayukta. The Court has also issued notice to the Lokayukta Justice NK Mehrotra. Fixing September 27 as the next date of hearing in the matter a Division Bench of the court comprising Justices Sunil Ambwani and Aditya Nath Mittal has directed the government and the Lokayukta to file their reply within three weeks of time and petitioner for filing his rejoinder within one week. The petition has been filed by the brother of then BSP government minister Ramveer Upadhyay seeking to restrain the Lokayukta from functioning and discharging duties .Our Allahabad correspondent reports that several of the then BSP government ministers including Ramveer Upadhyay have been accused by Lokayukta reports of having abused their position as cabinet ministers to acquire assets beyond all known sources of income.
