HC issues notice to TRAI over call drops issue

The Delhi High Court today issued notice to telecom regulatory body TRAI over the call drops issue. The notice was issued on a plea challenging TRAI's direction to telecom operators to compensate consumers for call drops. The telecom regulator had asked mobile service providers to ready their systems to compensate consumers for call drops from January 1 next year.

According to the guidelines, telecom operators will have to compensate consumers 1 rupee for every call drop that occurs due to fault in their network. The compensation will be limited to a maximum of 3 rupees a day per consumer.

However, telecom Industry bodies, The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and Association of Unified Service Providers in India (AUSPI) knocked the doors of Delhi High Court for a stay on the TRAI's compensation policy for call drops.
