HC gives partial relief to Hardik, slams reservation system

In partial relief to Patel quota agitation leader Hardik Patel, the Gujarat High Court has quashed the charge on him of waging war against government, but retained the one of sedition. The charge of waging war against government entails a possible death, while the one of sedition is punishable with upto life term. While refusing to drop the charge of sedition from the FIR against Hardik and his five associates, the court said in its order that reservation and corruption have destroyed this country or rather has not allowed the country to progress in the right direction.

In October, FIR was lodged against Hardik and five others under charges of sedition and waging war against the government. Four, including Hardik, were arrested and are currently in jail, while two others were not arrested as the High Court had granted them interim protection.
