Allahabad High Court has directed ?sugar mills in? Uttar Pradesh to start liquidating their stocks to pay arrears to farmers. The mills were asked to liquidate five per cent of their stocks every week for the next three weeks. The court will take up the matter for further hearing on September 3. Till then, the court has restrained any coercive action by the state government against mills. For the sale of stocks, the court fixed 3,100 rupees per quintal as the floor price.Private mills in the state owe Rs 5,000 crores as arrears to farmers for this season.
