The Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to file a written statement by Friday on the steps being planned in the event of a possible damage to Mullaperiyar dam.A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P. R. Ramachandra Menon directed the government to prioritize the disaster management steps, measures to be taken to alert people and publicise details of safe shelters. The Bench was considering three petitions relating to the safety of Mullaperiyar dam.The State Advocate General K P Dandapani told the Court that the cabinet, which met on Wednesday, has decided to ask Tamil Nadu to reduce the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam.He said on its part, the Kerala government has decided to bring down the water level in Idukki, Kulamavu and Cheruthoni dams.
