HC asks govt about steps to rehabilitate 'Victoria' owners

The Bombay High Court today directed Maharashtra government to file an affidavit on the steps it has taken towards framing a comprehensive policy for rehabilitation of owners and coachmen of 'Victoria' horse carriages, which have been banned from plying in the city. A division bench of Justices V M Kanade and P R Bora, directed the government to file its affidavit in two weeks.<br/>The high court had, in June 2015, directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to put a complete stop in one year on the carriages pulled by horses, saying they were illegal and violative of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The Court had also directed the state government to frame a comprehensive policy to rehabilitate carriage owners and coachmen who would be affected by the ban and also the horses.
