The Delhi High Court has allowed a distant relative of an ailing woman in need of kidney to donate one of her kidneys for the transplant.Earlier, appellate authority and authorisation committee of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi did not allow donation of kidney by a distant relative. The High Court asked for the reversal of the decision and immediately allow the transplant. Considering the facts and circumstances, and the urgency of the matter, Justice Vipin Sanghi said the formal approval should be granted within two days.
Begum, 58 who has been on dialysis since June 2011, was advised kidney transplant and had found a donor in Israt, the maternal grand daughter of her uncle.
