Contact groups are being set up at the ongoing bio-diversity conference in Hyderabad to achieve consensus among member countries on the issues related to climate change and mobilization of financial resources.
UN spokesperson David Ainsworth told media this morning that these groups will strive for broad consensus among delegates who expressed apprehensions on them.
He said 32 countries expressed diverse opinions over financial matters and 53 countries sought amendment to the implementation mechanism to tackle climate change issues.
He further said the delegates at the conference called for urgent steps to conserve marine and coastal bio-diversity, particularly bio-diversity in islands in different parts of the world.
The conference felt that islands are in critical condition due to enormous development and tourist activity there. The UN spokesperson added that the member countries reiterated the need to include indigenous communities in conserving marine and coastal bio-diversity.
