The National Green Tribunal has set aside the environment clearance granted by Ministry of Environment and Forests in 2013 for further development of the port at Hazira. The Pune-based Western Zone bench of NGT also slapped a penalty of 25 crore rupees on the construction company for carrying out work at the Hazira-based port near Surat without acquiring environment clearance.<br/><br/>The judgment was passed by NGT bench comprising justice V R Kingaonkar and Dr Ajay Deshpande in response to a plea filed by four local fishermen of Hazira.
