In Assam, the funeral of deceased music maestro, Dada Saheb Phalke award and Padma Bhusan receipient Dr. Bhupen Hazarika will take place with full State Honours at Guwahati this afternoon. Dr. Hazarika’s last rites will be performed at a location in the Guwahati University campus at Jhalukbari in the city. The funeral procession will start at 2.00 in the afternoon from Judges Field where Dr. Hazarika’s body has been kept for public viewing. AIR Correspondent reports that Guwahati city witnessed the rush of a sea of humanity to pay their tearful homage to the artist of the masses. Huge crowds gathered on the streets singing Dr. Hazarika’s epoch-making songs when the legendary singer’s mortal remains reached his native place from Mumbai yesterday.State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has instructed authorities to dispatch the ashes of Dr. Hazarika to district Deputy Commissioners of the State to perform religious rites in holy waters of their respective areas. He also announced the setting up of a Bhupendra Bhavan at the cremation site at the Gauhati University campus. The proposed Bhavan will have an auditorium, archive centre, museum and research centre. The project would serve as the centre for all research initiatives centering on the works of the multifaceted genius. Dr. Hazarika, 86, breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Memorial Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday following multi-organ failure.
