Hate speech: BJP's Giriraj Singh gets anticipatory bail from Patna court

BJP leader Giriraj Singh has been granted anticipatory bail in one of the cases against him by a Patna court for his alleged hate speeches during election campaign. Patna District and Sessions Judge Birendra Kumar granted bail to Giriraj Singh, a former minister in the Nitish Kumar government in the FIR lodged against him at Patna airport police station on April 21 under provisions of the Representation of People Act and Indian Penal Code. Three FIRs had been lodged against him at Deogarh, Bokaro and Patna for his hate speeches.

Earlier he had stoked controversy during an election meeting in Deoghar district of Jharkhand on April 19, saying that those who opposed Narendra Modi should go to Pakistan. His advocate argued that his client has already submitted his reply to the show cause notice to the competent authority and that his assertions were not aimed at any particular caste or community.

A team of Jharkhand police is already in Patna to arrest him in the light of non bailable warrants issued by a Bokaro court. They raided his house but he could not be found.
