Haryana turns down Centre’s request to withdraw separate Shiromani Gurudwara Management Committee Bill- 2014

Haryana has turned down the request of the centre to withdraw the separate Shiromani Gurudwara Management Committee Bill- 2014. The bill was passed by the Haryana assembly on the 11th of this month and the Governor accorded his assent on 3 days later.

Haryana Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Randeep Singh Surjewala today wrote to Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh asking him to withdraw the letter of his minstry asking for the withdrawal of the Bill. Terming the letter an affront to the federal structure and parliamentary democracy of the country, Surjewala also asked Singh to issue appropriate directions to Punjab government to desist from interfering into the affairs of Haryana within its territorial jurisdiction.

AIR Correspondent reports that the Centre shot off the letter to Haryana asking the state Governor to withdraw his assent granted to the Bill saying the state assembly does not have the legal authority to enact such a law.
