Haryana to raise forest cover to 10 per cent by 2010

Haryana Forests Minister, Capt. Ajay Singh Yadav has said that Forests Department has fixed a target to raise forest cover upto 10 per cent by the end of 2010. To achieve this target, one crore 75 lakh saplings will be planted by the Forest department during the current financial year. He said one crore 63 lakh saplings had already been planted so far. Capt. Yadav said 1,700 forest societies are working in the state. At present over seven per cent area is under forests cover in Haryana out of which 3.53 per cent is under government control and the remaining had been covered under the Agro-forestry. He said that 477 lakh tree had been planted during the year 2009-10 by the farmers and voluntary organizations under forestry scheme.<br/><br/><br/>
