Haryana sounds flood alert in districts along river Yamuna

The Haryana Government has sounded a red alert in the districts along the river Yamuna due to the threat of flash floods in the wake of heavy rains in the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, in the last 48 hours. Yamunanagar Administration has asked the residents of 25 villages along the Yamuna to move to higher places. On Monday , seven lakhs forty-four thousand cusecs of water from the Hathnikund barrage has been released breaking the last 50 years record. This is the sixth flood alarm in the district in the last two months. The government has sought help from the National Disaster Management Authority and the authorities in Delhi has also been alerted. According to Superintendent Engineer of the Irrigation Department B.S. Saini, Gate No. 18 of the Tajewala Headworks, has been damaged. He said the left part of the Headworks had been washed away completely and it could collapse any moment.
