Haryana has recorded an annual growth rate of 12.5 per cent in fish production as against 9.4 percent in 2005, which is even higher than present national growth rate of eight per cent.Stating this at Chandigarh on Monday, a spokesman for the Haryana Fisheries Department said the Department had set a target of increasing fish productivity from 5,400 kg per hectare per year in 2009-10 to 5,500 kg per hectare per year in 2010-11.He said that Government has implemented a 50 lakh rupees scheme to impart training and financial assistance to members belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs) to enable them take up fish farming. He said that financial assistance is being provided to SCs for taking ponds on lease, purchasing cycle and ice-box for retail sale of fish, hiring a private shop or taking one set up by the government in the fish market and for entering into fishing contract in scheduled waters. The training allowance is also being given to them. Financial assistance is also provided for digging up new ponds on the panchayat lands and for making improvement in the existing ponds.
