Haryana provides financial incentive to municipalities to boost solar energy

Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has provided a financial incentive of Rs. 50 lakh to 10 Haryana Municipalities who have carried out amendment in their building bye-laws for making solar water heating systems mandatory in the buildings falling under their jurisdiction. While stating this at Chandigarh today, Director, Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA), Mrs Sumita Misra said that the incentive was provided by the Ministry as one time grant to those urban local bodies who adopt and notify the modification of their building bye-laws .He said that the financial incentive is for training, awareness creation, demonstration and creation of infrastructure for a permanent help desk at the committee’s office.Mrs Misra said that the Urban Local Bodies Department had already notified the amendment in the Haryana Municipal Building Bye-laws 1982 on November 16, 2007 under which installation of solar water heating systems was made mandatory in industries, Government buildings, hospitals, hotels, institutes etc.and residential buildings on a plot of 500 square yards.The building plans of such buildings would be approved only when they make provision for installation of solar water heating systems as per BIS specifications of IS 12933.
