Haryana grants liberty to couples marrying against parents’ wishes

Haryana Home Department has issued directions granting liberty to couples who have married against the wishes of their parents to approach the District and Sessions Judges in the State for grant of protection. While stating this at Chandfigargh on Wednesday, a spokesman of Haryana Home Department said that the Police Officers have been directed to deal sternly with parents or relatives or other members of the society who threaten such couples and create law and order situation. He said that Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed to ensure that the protection centres indicated by the State in various affidavits are properly run so that protection can be given to run away couples. They have been further directed to form mediation or counselling cells in the offices of Commissioners or Senior Superintendents of Police to guide parents, relative and such couples to live in peace.
