Haryana Government has enhanced the amount of financial assistance being given to the Scheduled Castes under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.Giving this information at chandigarh, an official spokesman said under this scheme, financial assistance being given to those against whom atrocities of various kinds had been committed by members of other castes have been increased from 25,000 to 60,000 rupees.Also, in case of rape, the amount of financial assistance has been increased from 50,000 to 1.20 lakh rupees. He said that, in case of murder of a member belonging to Scheduled Castes by a person of other caste, the amount of financial assistance has been enhanced from two lakh rupees to five lakh rupees.In such cases, 75 per cent of the amount of the financial assistance is provided on the registration of case and the remaining 25 per cent after the offence is proved in the court.
