The World Health Organisation (WHO) has appreciated the Haryana Government campaign that is launched to check the use of nicotine in Hookah Bars in the state and has suggested other states to emulate it. Haryana got this appreciation at a State-Level Advocacy Workshop on ‘Tobacco Control Act, which was organised by the Haryana Health Department in Panchkula. National Professional Officer of the WHO on Tobacco Free Initiative in India Ms. Vineet Gill Munish, who addressed the delegates at the workshop, said the campaign launched by the Haryana Government to prohibit the use of Nicotine in Hookah Bars had been very effective. She said similar campaigns should also be started in Delhi and other metropolitan cities where the trend to visit Hookah Bars has been increasing among the youth. Meanwhile, Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh will honour 330 Panchayats of 16 districts of Haryana with ‘Nirmal Gram Puraskar’ at a state-level function to be organised at Karnal today. An official spokesman said Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda would preside over the function. About 15,000 elected representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions from five districts Yamuna Nagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Panipat and Karnal will participate in the function. He said that the prize money of the panchayats chosen for Nirmal Gram Purskars would be deposited directly into their bank accounts.
