Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced to launch a “State Urban Health Mission” to provide comprehensive health services in the urban areas particularly targeting the slum areas, thus making Haryana the first State in the country implement such a mission. Chief Minister also announced that under the Indira Bal Swasthya Yojna (IBSY) now free treatment would be provided to all children. Earlier, free treatment was being provided to children hailing from Below Povert Line families only. The Chief Minister announced these decision after presiding over a meeting with senior officers of Health Department at chandigarh on Thursady. Urban Health Mission seeks to set up Urban Health Centres for a population of one lakh which would provide curative, promotive andpreventive health services. Besides this poly-clinics and dispensaries will be operationalized in many cities. Outreach services will be provided through ANMs and community health motivators. This mission will be implemented in a phased manner initially focusing on urban areas with large slum population.
