Haryana CM announces measures to check crime against women

Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced a series of measures to effectively check crime against women, especially incidents of rape and ensure speedy trial of criminals. Chief Minister, who reviewed the steps being taken to check crime against women in a meeting with senior officers of the State Government and also of Police Department at Chandigarh today, announced to set up a State wide single number help line for women. He also announced to appoint a senior police officer of the rank of Additional Director General of Police to exclusively supervise these measures and ensure speedy trial of criminals involved in crime against women. The Additional Director General of Police would visit all districts personally to ensure effective monitoring of investigation and prosecutions in such cases.He said that the ADG (Police) would report to the DG (Police), who would forward the monitoring report to the Home Secretary. Chief Minister also announced that at district level, the police would be empowered to avail the services of special prosecutors so that the criminals involved in crime against women get stringent punishment. He also announced that at district level, either a lady Deputy Superintendent of Police or a lady Inspector would be posted to facilitate the women in getting their complaints lodged with the police. Mr Hooda said that the Deputy Commissioners have also been asked to remain alert and promptly redress the grievances of the people. He said that the State Government has also urged the Punjab and Haryana High Court for speedy trial of cases against women.
