Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced on Monday to launch a “State Urban Health Mission” to provide comprehensive health services in the urban areas particularly targeting the slum areas, thus making Haryana the first State in the country implement such a mission. Chief Minister also announced that under the Indira Bal Swasthya Yojna (IBSY) now free treatment would be provided to all children. Earlier, free treatment was being provided to children hailing from Below Povert Line families only. Chief Minister announced these decision after presiding over a meeting of Health Department at chandigarh on Monday.He said that so far the Rural Health Mission launched by Central Government has largely catered to the need of rural population but in view of rapid urbanisation in Haryana, there was an urgent need to address the health needs of large section of population residing in urban slums who are vulnerable to higher disease burden and were likely to have poor health indicators. This mission will be implemented in a phased manner initially focusing on slum population.
