In Kerala, normal life has been badly affected in Idukki district, following a hartal called by the Mullaperiyar Samara Samithi, seeking the construction of a new dam and the signing of a new agreement on Mullaperiyar.Vehicles largely kept off the road and shops and business establishments remained shut.Inter-state vehicle movement between Kerala and Tamil Nadu through Idukki has been hit.AIR correspondent reports that, although, the Samithi gave a state wide hartal call, it failed to evoke any response in other parts of the state. Major political parties had confined their support for the hartal to Idukki district alone.
