The Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission Dr. Sri Kumar Banerjee has said the proposed nuclear power plant at Haripur in West Bengal is going to be a safe bet for the environment. <br/><br/>Talking to newspersons in Kolkata today, Dr. Banerjee said that the compensation package being awarded is lucrative for the farmers who give their land for proposed power project.<br/><br/>Pointing out that nuclear energy is the most environment freiendly Dr.Banerjee said that nuclear energy is far more environment friendly then thermal power projects. He said that this nuclear power plant when completed would give 10,000 mw power. <br/><br/>The atomic Energy Commission Chairman also said that India has opened up to nuclear commerce to combat shortage of fuel and the country cannot go back on its stand in the nuclear field.
