In Uttarakhand, the death toll has increased from 16 to 20 in yesterday's stampede during a religious programme at an Ashram in Haridwar. Meanwhile, Gayetri Parivar head Pranab Pandya who accepted moral responsibility for the mishap also announced a compensation of two lakh rupees for the families of the deceased. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has expressed grief over the loss of lives in Haridwar. He has announced an ex-gratia of one lakh rupees to the next of kin of the deceased.
