In Assam, a hardcore ULFA militant was killed in an an encounter with security forces in Goalpara district today. Official sources said, acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the army andpolice launched an operation in Mendikona area under Dhupdhara police station and an encounter followed in which the militant was killed. An AK-56 rifle, a grenade, two magazines, empty cartridges, over a hundred bullets and several extortion notes were recovered from the slain militant, identified as Diganta Rabha alias Calendar.
