Hamid Karzai threatens to join Taliban

Afghan law makers say, President Hamid Karzai used a close private meeting to lash out at Western powers saying the Taliban will become a legitimate movement if meddling in Afghan affairs continued. The law makers say, Mr. Karzai also suggested he might join the Taliban if the pressure does not stop. In an interview with BBC television yesterday, Mr. Karzai said he stands by remarks last week blaming international embassies and organizations for fraud in last year's August 20 presidential elections. The White House called Mr. Karzai's remarks "troubling", but said a planned meeting between US President Barack Obama and Mr. Karzai next month in Washington is still scheduled.
