Haitians living in temporary shelter at risk from Hurricane Tomas

The authorities in Haiti are urging thousands of people to leave temporary camps before a tropical storm makes landfall in the next few hours. Forecasters warn, it could destroy many of the makeshift tented homes where tens of thousands of Haitians have been living since an earthquake destroyed their homes in January. Heavy rain is lashing the region as tropical storm Tomas approaches Haiti. The fear is that the persistent rainfall could cause mudslides and flooding. Haiti's hill sides are unstable because many of the trees have been cut down.
