Haiti gives temporary control of country's main Airport to US to speed up aid supplies

In Haiti, authorities say, the devastating earthquake on Tuesday has left over two lakh people killed and tension is mounting among the survivors as international aid and food supplies began pouring in. Secretary of State for Public Safety said, about forty thousand bodies are still buried in rubble graves. The government in Haiti has given the United States temporary control of the country's main airport in an effort to get aid supplies moving more quickly to survivors of the earthquake. Over 30 countries, including India are contributing relief materials. Helicopters from a US aircraft carrier have begun delivering supplies to the capital city.The quake destroyed completely the Presidential palace and knocked down communications and power supplies. The President and the Prime Minister are believed to be working from the Judicial Police Headquarters. The US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said she will go to Haiti today to see the situation there for herself. Her visit will be followed tomorrow by the UN Secretary General Ban ki Moon. The UN has launched an appeal for more than five hundred million dollars to help victims of the earthquake.
