Haiti faces humanitarian tragedy & emergency situation: UN envoy

United Nations envoy for Haiti, Sandra Honore has said, the Caribbean nation is facing a humanitarian tragedy and an acute emergency situation, with over a million people needing immediate help. Haiti was recently hit by a strong Hurricane Matthew which is believed to have killed more than 1,000 people and destroyed tens of thousands of homes. <br/><br/>Ms Honore told the UN Security Council yesterday that already fragile water and sanitation infrastructure has been severely damaged and it poses a challenge of infections from diarrheal diseases. She said, the United Nations is providing water purification systems and medicine to hard-to-reach areas. The Un envoy appealed for 120 million dollars to help the hurricane victims in the country.
