Authorities in Pakistan have put Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed under house arrest at the Qadisiyyah Mosque near Chouburji in Lahore. Hafiz Saeed headed Jamaat ud Dawa (JuD) is also likely to be banned. Pakistani media reports that the provincial authorities yesterday issued orders to place Hafiz Saeed and five others under house arrest. <br/><br/>The provincial government's action comes amidst pressure from the Trump administration to act against terror. The US has clearly told Islamabad that in case of not taking action against JuD and Saeed, it may face sanctions.<br/><br/>Saeed had been accused by the United States and India of masterminding the 2008 attacks on the Indian financial capital Mumbai that killed 166 people. <br/><br/>In 2012, the United States announced a bounty of 10 million dollar on Hafiz Saeed for his alleged role in the attack in which six American citizens were also killed.<br/><br/>India today said it has consistently called for bringing known terrorists under the ambit of proscribed terrorists by the UN Security Council. Reacting to the media reports about the detention of 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, such detentions have taken place in the past also.<br/><br/> He, however, said, only a credible crack down on the mastermind of the Mumbai terrorist attack and terrorist organizations involved in cross border terrorism would be proof of Pakistan's sincerity.
