<br/>The Guwahati Regional Centre of IGNOU was selected for the Best Services Award for the year 2009.The gold medal and citation was received by Dr Vardhini Bhattacharjee, Regional Director at the 21st convocation of IGNOU held in New Delhi recently. Prof SK Joshi, former Director General, CSIR, was the chief guest of the function.<br/><br/> The award is given in recognition of the efficient internal administration, better management of study centre and learner support centre, understanding of the educational needs of the region and for the success in providing committed service for the educational development of the region.<br/><br/> AIR Silchar correspondent L T K Singh reports that the Guwahati Regional Centre has undertaken several innovative measures for enhancing the employability skill of the youth of the region. IGNOU has also conducted certificate courses in primary education programme to train the primary teachers of Assam. So far, 19,000 teachers have been trained under the scheme.
