The Assam Police today arrested two more persons in connection with the Guwahati mob molestation incident. With this the total number of arrests in the case has now gone up to six. Five more remain on the run, while one is yet to be identified. According to the police, a sub-inspector has also been suspended in the case. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi yesterday set a 48-hour deadline for the police to nab the culprits. A Special Task Force has also been constituted to look into the matter.
A two member team of the National Commission for Women yesterday visited Guwahati and investigated the matter. It has demanded exemplary punishment within six months for all the accused by constituting a Special Fast Track Court. The team met senior officials and also spoke to witnesses to the incident. Talking to newspersons later, it said the Commission will arrange counseling for the victim. The team will submit a detailed report on the incident to the Chairperson of National Commission for Women tomorrow.
