Gurudev birthday celebrations across India

The 151st birthday of Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore is being celebrated across the country with enthusiasm. Several musical programmes, dance dramas, seminars have been organised to pay respect to Gurudev Tagore. Our Kolkata correspondent reports that West Bengal is geared up to celebrate the birth anniversary with a number of cultural programmes. Our Kolkata correspondent reports that the day has begun with music, prabhat pheries and garlanding of statues and portraits of Tagore.Streams of people have converged at Jorasanko Thakurbari -the birth place of Rabindranath- to pay respect to Gurudev. A fortnight long programme is also being organised by the State Government in Kolkata where Chief Minister Ms. Mamta Banerjee will be present this afternoon.The State Government has declared a holiday in all government offices on the occassion.Meanwhile, the commemoration of 150th anniversary of Rabindra Nath Tagore ended at an impressive function in the National Capital yesterday. The year long celebrations, a series of functions were organised, particularly in India and Bangladesh. Addressing the concluding function, Vice-President, Mohd. Hamid Ansari said that the Nobel laureate was a multi faceted genius which is reflected in his vision.The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, Dipu Moni who was the chief guest on the occasion said, Rabindranath Tagore through his teachings enriched the lives of both India and Bangladesh and also the international community.
