Guru Purnima being celebrated today; PM greets on the occasion

Guru Purnima is being celebrated today. The festival is celebrated to pay respect to spiritual and academic teachers. In Himachal Pradesh, several religious functions have been organised in different parts of the state. This day reminds us the ancient Indian tradition of Gurukul under which the students were taught and it is also a symbol of Guru-Shishya Parampara. <br/><br/>Saint Vyasa is considered to be the first greatest and most beloved guru that's why Saint Vaysa is worshiped especially on this day. It is also believed that Saint Vyasa was not only born on this day, but his writing on the Brahma Sutras also ended this day. Lord Buddha also gave his first sermon on this day at Sarnath. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the people on the occasion.<br/><br/>Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar today felicitated Members of Parliament having academic background on the occasion of Guru Purnima. They included former Professors and Vice Chancellors. Notable among them were Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien, Dr. Karan Singh, KV Thomas, Janardan Dwivedi, Saugata Roy Upendra Kushwah, Dr. Jitendra Singh and Dr. Subramanian Swamy.
