Gurmeet Singh of Jharkhand has set a new national record in men's 20 kilometre walk. In the season-opening Indian Grand Prix at Patiala today, he improved upon the earlier mark by nearly three minutes to hog the limelight on the opening day of the event. Twentysix-year old Gurmeet clocked One Hour, twenty minutes, thirtyfive seconds at the NIS tracks. He eclipsed the earlier national record of One Hour, twentythree minutes, and six seconds set in 2009 by Babubhai Panocha. Babubhai, representing Gujarat, finished second, while Basant Bahadur of Army was third. Gurmeet gave the dope test after his event and his recordwill be ratified by the technical committee after following the due process.
