Gurjar leaders call off their 17-day long agitation

In Rajasthan, Gurjar leaders have called off their 17-day long agitation following an agreement with the state government. An announcement to this effect was made by Gurjar leader Col Kirori Singh Bainsla in Jaipur last night after holding talks with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and a committee of ministers appointed by the state government. Col Bainsla and his team agreed to the state government's assurance that it will complete the collection of quantifiable data within six months and will keep 4 per cent of the government jobs vacant for Special Backward Class, SBC. Besides this, one per cent reservation for Gujjar community will also continue during the process. State Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal said that the government will file a review petition in the Rajathan High Court for considering the five per cent reservation under SBC to Gurjars, Gadia Lohar, Raika-Rebari, and Banjara in Rajasthan till the quantifiable data collection is completed. As per the agreement, the government has promised to withdraw cases lodged against the agitators. Roop Singh, aide of Bainsla, said that the agitators squatting on the Delhi-Mumbai tracks at Pilukapura, have been asked to vacate the rail tracks. Agitators have also been asked by their leaders to lift blockade of the Jaipur-Agra national highway and other roads with immediate effect.
