Gunmen attack Presidential palace in Guinea

Gunmen in the West African state of Guinea have attacked the Presidential palace in the capital Conakry. One report said President Alpha Conde escaped injury and was safe. Witnesses said there was sustained gunfire during the early hours of the morning and the normally busy streets were virtually empty when the day broke. Further details are awaited.
